This list is missing some of my favorites from 2010: Soundpool - Mirrors In Your Eyes; The Sunshine Factory - Sugar; School of Seven Bells - Disconnect From Desire, Film School - Fission and more. It's kind of baffling to ignore the Soundpool disc, especially since it was such a terrific and different take on shoegaze. Baffling!
Not to mention the fantastic release: Tobacco - Fucked Up Friends. That should have been included in there as well. All of those albums deserve some recognition, much more than Exit Calm and Singapore Sling.
I accidentally listed the incorrect Tobacco album. It's actually 'Manic Meat'. My mistake.
First of all, Tobacco is more shoegaze than Exit Calm, which is more like AOR (adult-oriented rock) shoegaze. If you've ever been to a Tobacco show and looked at his pedal board, then you'd realize that it's shoegaze. And, if you think that BMSR isn't shoegaze, then you should go back and get a handle on what real shoegaze is.
Exit Calm... yawn. I heard it before. Sounds like Polara. Sorry to hurt your feelings.
exit calm sound like polara??? hahahaha you're a joke, dude exit calm is nothing less than the second coming of classic verve, their album is a classic on par with "a storm in heaven" easily, you keep your gimmicky tobacco trash, i'll keep my "aor" shoegaze, thanks!
You're a joke to even compare The Verve with Exit Calm. It's obvious that you're one of those shoegazer types that tries to validate their taste in nugaze by comparing it to the best bands of the golden age. Exit Calm couldn't hold The Verve's jockstrap. Sounds like "A Storm In Heaven"? Seriously? Go learn your shoegaze history and then come back to me when you actually know something.
Secondly, you have a very narrow view of shoegaze if you can't hear the shoegaze sounds in BMSR. Expand your horizons a little bit and learn to accept the newer sounds. Not all shoegaze is band-based guitar sounds, "kid". If we all thought like you did, then we wouldn't classify amazing bands like Bowery Electric and Disjecta as shoegaze.
Get a grip on what's real shoegaze and then have a revelation. Obviously, we agree to disagree.
By the way, I love your tough-guy language: i.e. "kid", "bub", "new jack kid". Are you a hipster or what? Go listen to some Arcade Fire and leave me alone, Napoleon.
Hendershot, I was listening to shoegaze when you were crapping your lil diapers, I saw My Bloody Valentine when they were first around, not in the 00's like you nugaze punks, alternately, go fuck yourself, loser. i've forgotten more good music than you'll ever know.

ReplyDeleteAnd also, Amusement Parks On Fire - Road Eyes. That was their best release yet.
ReplyDeleteWoah, hendershot, you make zero sense there, bub. Tobacco isn't even shoegaze, and exit calm is absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeletenot to even mention tobacco isnt even 2010, sheesh
ReplyDeletewhere links to download?

one more thing, tobacco != bmsr, and bmsr was far, far from shoegaze, learn a little, new jack kid.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the very nice list, White Noise Sound is one I would add high up on the list. 2010 was a great year in shoegaze.

DAMN I love that Ceremony album... Some recommendations in that style would be most appreciated.

ReplyDeleteif you were there at the time, you'd call it shoegazing!
ReplyDeleteUmmm....no Film School? Not a terrrrrible list but no Film School kinda makes this a bit strange.
ReplyDeletenot mentioning Alcest on the list kinda freaks me out.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess Film School not being on here is rather odd. Highspire No. 2? I was thinking of buying that, I guess I probably should now.
